[time to enter the dungeon!
which is to say that when the princess is suddenly turned into a diamond and the necklace rests upon buzen's collarbone, he looks more than a little bit surprised. he lets his hand curl around the pendant before looking over to sophia]
—I think she's with me now. Are you gonna be okay, Sophi-chan? We can see how far we get if you want me to pick you up and carry you both through the catacombs...

[it's not like he minds!! inhumans and their poor sense of personals pace - but even as she rocks back on her heels, buzen will reach out to gently touch her shoulder to make sure she doesn't stray too far. child that he feels oddly responsible for!!]
That's a good attitude - alright, let's make sure we protect her well, then!
I don't think I'm supposed to take a combat role, which is kinda new... but I can at least dodge out of the way, probably.

[ It's 8 AM in the morning at the Hummingbird Suite. Do you know where your Childe is?
Currently, he is making the fluffiest pancakes ever. What better way to say hello to your new roomies than to make them food, right? Plus, he was craving pancakes anyway so it's a win-win situation for him.
He has a nice stack of fresh pancakes on a plate ready to be devoured, but he seems busy with making more... ]

[ Childe is just about to flip the pancake he is currently cooking when Sophia's voice catches his attention. ]
They're supposed to be, or else I haven't done a very good job of making them. How many do you want?

They are! And our other roomies, but since you're here first, you get first pick.
[ There he goes— he flips the pancake again. It's not much longer until this one is cooked. ]
How many?

[ He takes the quest less because he has any particular interest in babysitting (in fact, the opposite is true, he has no interest in babysitting) and more because he needs to get a feel for the place(s) he's found himself in. Also, turns out books can only teach you so much about animal behavior.
(when people start texting you to look at their dogs but you know NOTHING about animals!!!)
He's crouched a couple feet away from one of the baby wind whales right now, a checklist in his hands as he watches it roll idly in the grass. ]
Do you know anything about whales?
[ Are they really flying blind right now? ]

[ That's....hm. Is she helping?? He looks back at his baby charge. Tries to imagine it at 100 feet long. Frowns. ]
Are those similar to these whales?
[ He has never seen a whale in his life, all his scant knowledge is from books he'd barely had time to skim through before arriving here. ]

Forged ready! [get it? because he wasn't born. but he'll just grin then and move to start striding forward, but not getting too far ahead of her] Let's see what this dungeon's got!
[spiders, apparently. giant honking spiders. they can probably hear the skittering of them not too long afterward]

[ listen, after this official image... he can do anything.
When Sophia tells him how many she wants, he brightens up — that boyish charm sure is on full force this morning. ]
Three it is.
[ He goes ahead and plates the one he just finished cooking with another fluffy pancake. Soon after, he scoops up some more batter to start making another one. ]
Want anything with it? Strawberries? Whipped cream?

[ Better 15 to 20 feet than 100. ]
You came prepared.
[ There's not much inflection in his voice in any given day, but the words are definitely complimentary and not judgemental. Next to him, one of the babies chirps, doing its best to wiggle over to him. Does it want food? Attention? Play? He consults his checklist again, fruitlessly. ]
Did your source say anything about enrichment?
[ How does one play with baby whales..... ]

[ Most small animals do seem to like attention, she's not wrong there.
He gives her words a moment's though, then carefully steps over until he's about a foot away, close enough to be able to stick out one arm to pat the baby whale atop its (comparatively) large head. Which he does but like, awkwardly and incredibly cautiously, fingers barely making contact with the surface before they lift up again.
Truly there's nothing more embarrassing than a grown man looking uncomfortable while trying to pat a baby animal of any sort. ]

[ SOPHIA?
He snaps his head around abruptly to stare at her with open confusion, his hand jerking to a stop in midair before it can make contact with the baby whale a second time. ]
Pain? [ ???? ] No. Why?
[ Apparently he is unaware of just how graceless he looks right now. ]

I like to have it with a lot of fruits — any type of berry tastes really good with them, and whipped cream. Maple syrup is good too. It depends on what you're feeling.
[ He looks at the plate, contemplating his options. ]
Tell you what— I'll give you different toppings for each one.
[ Her final options: a) strawberry and chocolate sauce; b) mixed berries and whipped cream; and c) plain ol' maple syrup. They're all plated separately on cute little plates. He passes her a fork and knife. ]
Feel free to dig in.
